I would to thank the Officers and Committee and also the Members for inviting me to give Challenge Certificates for the first time. I was very pleased with my entry with a lot of quality dogs to go over, and had to split hairs in some classes for top honours. The last time I judged, I was concerned with size but, pleased to say that this has improved. Finally thank you very much to the exhibitors, some of whom had travelled a very long way.

Minor Puppy: (5 : 2 abs)

1. Clarke’s Tigerrock Two Unlimited – 7 and half month old puppy, loved everything about him, super head, kind eye and expression, good reach of neck , well balanced for one so young, moved well and with Co Judge’s agreement BPIS

2. Clarke’s Tigerrock Reet Petite, litter brother to 1, another lovely puppy, similar comments to the above, very difficult to choose between the two, just preferred the head of 1. Moved well when settled.

3. Luckett-Roynon’s Solva Goulaid

Puppy: (5 : 3 abs)

1. Knowle’s Menstonia, Murphys Law – handsome dog, with nice straight front, enough bone, well sprung ribs, nicely angulated rear quarters, moved with purpose.

2. Luckett-Roynon’s, Solva Goulaid – very different type to 1, good head, eye and expression, did not seem to settle on the move.

Junior (8 : 0 abs)

1. Graham’s Nyliram Blazing Star JW – lovely type pleasing head with kind eye and expression, good reach of neck, shoulders well placed, nicely angulated rear quarters, moved with drive.

2. Harrison’s Glenbrows Timelord JW – another very smart young dog, masculine in head, nicely sloping shoulders and good top-line, well balanced, moved well, very close decision between these 2.

3. Slapestones Atlantic at Hawickoyd

Sp Yearling (7 : 0 abs)

1. Thirlwell’s Sh Ch Ferndel Aeron Magregor , a dog worthy of his title, absolutely stunning dog, oozes quality, super head, eye and expression, good reach of neck leading to well laid shoulders, correct top line, ribs well sprung, nicely angulated, shown in excellent coat and condition as you would expect from this kennel, moved around the ring with ease. Had no hesitation in awarding him the CC. Also RBIS

2. Clarke’s Tigerrock Paddington Bear, unlucky to meet 1, but never theless another nice young dog, liked his head, reach of neck and body properties, moved well

1. Wren’s Sannu Copper Beech at Gwynmarren JW SH CM, what a lovely elderly gentleman, 10 yrs of age, shown in good condition, all the qualities of a Sh Ch, pleasing in head, good depth of body, short coupled, and moved well, loved his mum’s exuberance. Best Veteran

2. Butler’s Cleavehill Dewi – 8 yrs old, different in type to 1, good bone and substance, masculine in head, enough bone moved and showed well

1. Tyler/Shiels Eiriandylis Jems Jasper – Very flashy dog, lovely head, and expression, ears well set, nicely put together, good bone and substance, shown in excellent coat and condition. Moved with drive

2. Cocking/Barnaby’s Bushwacker Thriller – another promising young dog, with nice head, dark eye, good reach of neck, depth of chest, hocks well let down, just needs to settle on the move, but this will come with time.

Post Graduate (8 : 0 abs)

1. Carr’s Gemill Prince of Thieves – mature young dog, pleasing in head, eye and expression, straight front, well sprung ribs, nice turn of stifle. Moved well

2. Pick’s Llon Aneurin – different type to 1, but nonetheless a very nice young dog, super head, nicely put together, short coupled, just needs his furnishings to complete the picture, moved with drive.

Mid Limit (4 : 1 abs)

1. Summers ,Hillrobin Hamlet – What a very happy dog, lovely head, eye and expression, correct topline, well sprung ribs, good turn of stifle (when he managed to stand still) moved well fore and aft.

2. Place’s Menstonia Worth a Chance at Aarminias SH CM – Masculine dog, well put together, nicely angulated hindquarters moved with ease.

Limit (7: 0 abs)

1. Clarke’s Jeavart Different Strokes by Tigerrock JW SH CM – What a very happy and merry dog, which is what the breed is about, shown in wonderful coat and condition, well balanced, clean in neck, good bone and depth of brisket, hindquarters well angulated. Nice feet. Could see him working all day

2. Salt’s Islanza on the Ball SH CM and yet another good dog, lovely head, eye and expression, straight front, good bone and well bodied, just preferred outline of 1, moved well.

1. Pennylock Rhys over Nyliram JW SH CM – Lovely type, full of quality, masculine head, ears well set, good reach of neck leading to well laid shoulders, correct topline, strong hindquarters, nicely angulated, carried his tail well, moved with drive RCC

2. Harrison’s Glenbrows Picture this JW SH CM – unlucky to meet 1 another quality dog, beautifully presented, strong masculine head, good in neck and shoulder placement, body well proportioned, moved well

North of England Welsh Springer Spaniel - 26 Class Open Show – 05.12.2009

What an honour to have been asked to judge this wonderful breed. My thanks must go to the committee for organising such a professional show in beautiful surroundings. A special thanks to the unsung hero – my steward. Without, any show would not run as smoothly. Last but not least, the exhibitors who entrusted their charges for my opinion. Some tail carriage and size variations were apparent, though overall quality was of a very high standard and all should be justly proud of the breed.

Vet D (4,1)	1. Morgan’s – AMIRO THE THINKER JW 2. Jackson’s – MENSTONIA MIAMI VICE JW 3. Anderson’s – CLEAVEHILL LLEWELLYN			Typical of the breed, masculine head, kind expression and balanced throughout. Strong neck, good spring of rib, strong bone, maintained his top line on the move, nice rise over the loin, good feet, nicely angulated fore and aft. Shown in good hard condition. (R.B.D) Very good type. Lovely head and eye, clean neck leading into strong shoulders, good spring of rib, nicely angulated for and aft, nice rise over loin, shown in very good condition. Just preferred free movement of ‘1’.

M.P.D (4,0)	1. Knowles – STEDIGAN THE TIME HAS COME AT MENSTONIA			Well balanced picture standing and on the move, good head, nice dark eye, soft expression, correct bite, good reach of neck into well laid shoulders, good angulations fore and aft, good bone, neat cat like feet. Moved well from muscular hind quarters. Worth keeping an eye on for the future. BPD, RBP
	2. Greenwood’s – MENSTONIA MAJOR GENERAL AMONG TELKARO			Much to like about this boy. Nice head, kind eye, good bite, nice reach of neck, good outline, well bodied, good feet, correct angulations’, moved with drive from nicely formed muscular rear end, good feet. Just preferred head of ‘1’

J.D. (1,0)	1. Clarkes’s JEAVART DIFFERENT STROKES BY TIGERROCK JW			Stood alone, yet worth a look. Good head, neck and shoulder. Nice spring of rib, good bone, shown in good condition, tail carried well on the move. When settled, moved freely and happily around ring.

Y.D (4,2)	1. Howard’s – MORGANSTAR MOONDUST			Good type and nicely balanced, shown in excellent condition. Good head, kind expression, nice reach of neck into well laid shoulders, good spring of rib, good angulations fore and aft, nicely boned, neat, cat like feet, moved well, maintaining a nice top line. Nothing to dislike about this boy.
	2. Jackson’s – SLAPSTONES JUPITER			Well put together lad, good size, pleasing head, kind eye, clean neck leading to good shoulder placement, nice spring of rib, nicely coupled, good rear angulations, nicely developed thigh giving the power to stride out in the ring when settled.

Clarke’s – TIGERROCK PADDINGTON BEAR			Classic shape head without coarseness, defined stop, kind expression, presented in good condition, clean neck, leading into good shoulder placement, good spring of rib, muscular first and second thigh, good front and rear angulations. When settled, movement was happy and true.

RUSSETHILL ROBYN ADAIR			Up on size, very pleasing standing and on move, good head, defined stop, soft expression, correct eye colour and shape, strong neck leading to well laid shoulders, good fore and aft angulations, good spring of rib, good brisket, good muscle tone, moved with ease covering the ground well, maintaining top-line.
	2.Dyer & Dalrymple’s – BALCRAIG MISTY HARBOUR			Presented in good condition, good head, correct eye, nice chiselling under eye, clean strong neck into muscular shoulders, deep chest, good fore and aft angulations, well muscled thighs, not a lot to dislike about this dog. Just preferred overall movement of ‘1’ today.

	2. Philipson’s – MELFON SPECKLED BEAUTY			Lovely head, very kind expression, clean neck leading onto muscular shoulders, good angulations’ fore and aft, good tail set, good spring of rib, good cat like feet, preferred overall picture of ‘1’ today

M.P.B (4,1)	1. Knowles – MENSTONIA MARIA			What a picture, balanced head, soft expression, good reach of neck into well laid shoulders, good front and rear angulations’, nicely developed muscles for age, good spring of rib, nice tail set, neat cat like feet. Moved as if with purpose maintaining top line on move. (B.P.B / B.P.I.S)
	2. Morgan’s – AMIRO MADRIGAL			This young girl was enjoying her day out, nice compact body for age, good head, nice eye, soft expression, nice reach of neck, into a good lay of shoulder, good angulations fore and aft, good feet, moved well around ring. Developing nicely for age.
	3. Ellis’s – BLITHBROOK MYSTIC MILLY

P.B (4,1)	1. Dyer & DARYMPLE DALVILLE DELLA			Good size, compact bitch, a lovely picture standing and on the move, shown in good condition, classic Welsh head, good reach of neck, good lay of shoulder, good chest and spring of rib, nicely developed muscle tone fore and aft, neat cat like feet, strong rear end, moved with freely.
	2. Revill & Popkin’s – JULIA RENYA			Good size, compact bitch, shown in good condition, good head, nice stop, lovely eye, good reach of neck, good lay of shoulder, good chest and spring of rib, nicely developed muscle tone fore and aft, neat cat like feet, strong rear end, moved with purpose. Just pipped by 1^st on this occasion.
	3. Butler & Riley’s – RAVENSWORTH MAIRWEN

J.B (5,2)	1. Dobbie’s – A NEW FLAME FOR ROCKYPOINT			Won a good class, where places could change with maturity, very nice young lady, who demanded a second look, good size and proportionate, mature for age, nice feminine head, kind expression, good scissor like bite, neat neck, good lay of shoulder, deep chest, good spring of rib, nicely boned, neat feet, nice top line, static and on the move, strong rear end, drove well around ring. (B.B / R.B.I.S.)
	2. Gibson’s – CADEHILL SINGIN HINNIE			Balanced outline standing and on the move, pleasing feminine head, kind expression, nice chiselling under eye, good reach of neck, good lay of shoulder, good front and rear angulations’, nice spring of rib, nice tail set, moved happily around ring, covering ground well.
	3. Ingman’s – GUILDER ROSE

Y.B (4,1)	1. Dobbie’s – NEW FLAME AT ROCKYPOINT			As per J.B. 1 Another good class with very strong contender for 1^st place.
	2. Butler’s – FERNDEL TAKE A CHANCE			A quality bitch, pleasing colour and type, nice feminine head, dark eye with light chiselling under, sound construction and length of body, good neck, nicely angulated fore and aft, nice spring of rib, nicely muscled rear allowing active movement, drove freely covering the ground well.
	3. Philipson’s – CODYLUX PRIDE OF ARE ALLEY

Short’s – CWSSCWN NORTHERN SOUL OF TOFTWOOD			A balanced bitch of proportionate size, feminine head, kind eye, defined stop, nice scissor type bite, clean neck leading onto nicely angulated shoulders, good spring of rib, short coupled, nice cat like feet, strong nicely angulated hind quarters. Not as happy on the move as ‘1’

Dyer & Adams – RED DIAMOND OVER KAZVAL			Good head, melting expression, good bite, nice neck, clean overall out line, good angulations, nice tight cat like feet, top line maintained on the move, nice bone, good rib, nice muscle tone throughout, nice rise over loin, standing and on the move, she was a pleasure to watch, went round the ring covering the ground well.

L.B (8,2)	1. Frost’s – BUSHWACKER ATOMIC KITTEN			Very pleasing head and eye, neat neck leading to nicely angulated shoulders, good depth of heart, well sprung rib, nice rise over strong loin, nicely muscled rear quarters, well off for bone, nice feet, strode out covering the ground well. (R.B.B.)
